OverviewLos patrones de IDF de las lluvias extremas son empleados en el dise o de obras de drenajes. Dado que en el estado Cojedes (Venezuela) es escasa la informaci n sobre las mismas, esta investigaci n tuvo como objetivo generar modelos matem ticos para la estimaci n de tormentas de dise o en el estado. El estudio se bas en los registros hist ricos de 48 estaciones pluviogr ficas ubicadas en el estado Cojedes y sus adyacencias, a partir de los cuales se determin la intensidad de las lluvias extremas para duraciones comprendidas entre 5 minutos y 24 horas. El modelo matem tico IDF para el estado Cojedes tuvo un R2 de 99,471 %. Se encontr que el factor de reducci n de las lluvias extremas en el estado Cojedes no depende del periodo de retorno, sino de las duraciones de las lluvias. Asimismo, se localiz en la zona noreste del estado un n cleo de alta intensidad de lluvia mientras que en el sureste se observ el fen meno contrario.
